Winam Rugby Academy once again proved that the future of rugby in Kisumu is bright after an outstanding performance at the Black Rock Under-15 tournament.
The academy’s boys’ team delivered dominant performances throughout the competition, beginning with a convincing 29–00 victory over Kakamega High School before following it up with another strong 10–00 win against Lugulu Boys High School.
The girls’ team also showcased resilience and talent, securing an impressive 10–00 win against DBA before narrowly falling 05–00 to Lugulu in a tough contest.
Adding to the celebrations, Winam Rugby Academy’s talented halfback Mark Junior was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament after consistently outstanding performances that inspired teammates and impressed spectators throughout the event.
Beyond the victories and trophies, Winam Rugby Academy continues to make a lasting impact in the development of age-grade rugby in Kisumu and across Kenya. The academy has remained committed to nurturing young talent, currently supporting and training more than 60 boys and girls in its age-grade rugby program.
The academy’s vision goes far beyond competition. Winam Rugby Academy is focused on growing rugby in Kisumu while also serving as a key feeder system for rugby clubs across Kenya. Through structured coaching, mentorship, and player development, the academy is creating opportunities for young athletes to progress to higher levels of the game.
Education also remains at the heart of the academy’s mission. Through its “rugby for education” initiative, Winam Rugby Academy works to help talented young players secure scholarships and educational opportunities in junior secondary schools, high schools, and universities. The goal is not only to produce great rugby players but also to empower disciplined, educated, and confident young people who can build successful futures both on and off the field.
As the academy continues to grow, performances like those seen at the Black Rock Under-15 tournament are a reflection of the hard work, passion, and commitment being invested in the next generation of Kenyan rugby talent.
